Here’s a little something to think about in the meantime….

I can see why Andy Warhol is such a revered modern artist. There is beauty and truth and wisdom to be found in pop culture if you let yourself see it. It is the glossary for the language of spirit…sychronicity.

There is a song or a group…I forget which…but something like that brought the phrase “third eye blind” to my attention. It happens. There are some days where it just feels like your connection to spirit is fuzzy. Sometimes you just feel ‘third eye blind’

You KNOW with my current infatuation with Twilight I’m going to relate this to Alice…and how she loses sight of Bella around the shapeshifters and Renesme…

So there is the pop-culture analogy for something that happens to everyone. If everyone has psychic ability, then everyone has the psychic equivalent of bad hair days too. The kicker is what do you DO about those times.

For me…I do a whole lot of nothing. Maybe eat some doritos.

Balance is a big deal. Especially doing this kind of work. If you are getting mixed messages and nonsense from your cards, maybe it is a BIG hint to just step away from the deck, and take a break. Inspiration will come in its own time. The right coincidence and synchronicity will be there. Maybe the message needs another venue…a book instead of a movie, a song instead of a book, a meditation instead of a song…the language of spirit has a large vocabulary, and if we don’t understand one message, it will be phrased a different way.

Sometimes, too, we need to stop being so spiritual. It is possible to shift to high vibration…we need to ground and center sometimes. One of the slickest bits of advice I’ve heard came from an aura reading class taught by Paul Huges in Pittsburgh…eat some corn. I don’t why or how or if it will work for you, but it really does have an earthy, comforting, grounding, balancing energy about it. Hey, any excuse to make a pan of good old southern corn casserole, right?

But is is possible to overdo it with spirituality, intuition, psychics…anything, really. Sometimes the psychic & spiritual message is STOP!

So if you run into a brick wall with doing a reading or understanding a reading that you received, just put it down for a while, and do something entirely different. Turn off the new age music, and bring up your favorite dance playlist. Turn off the drama, and watch a comedy. Get some exercise. Do some housework, or some task that doesn’t need much thought.

“Only the empty cup can be filled”…it’s usually in these mundane times that the greatest insight drop in like a bolt from the blue.

Don’t force yourself to see…you’ll just get a headache like Alice did when Renesme was coming.

Live life, allow yourself to be happy. Dance, laugh, love, eat…nothing rejuvinates a third eye like a little rest, a little LIFE. Be fully in yours, and the insights will come in their own time, in their own way.

Mediation is also one of those easier-said-than-done kind of things. But it is also one of those you-get-out-of-it-what-you-put-into-it kind of things. It doesn’t take so much effort. What you put into it is an investment of time. It can help you if you don’t do it, even if what you do – to casual observation – appears to be next to nothing at all.

Entire books have been written about meditation. There is much more to meditation than one blog post can cover. Although, if anyone can come close, it is my friend Joy. In her blog and newsletter, she often talks about meditation and how it relates to intuition.

Today she reminds us of the analogy of thoughts and sound in meditation.

Thinking, “inner dialog” some call it, is a normal, natural, spontaneous part of the mind. It is just as normal and natural as sound coming from a gong when you strike it.

The tricky part is the end of the sound, the letting go of the thought.

Just as sound comes naturally from striking a gong, the sound from that strike fades away. Thoughts come as we meditate. The trick is letting them fade away. Sound comes, sound goes. Thoughts come, thoughts go. The really tricky part is not striking the gong again. The really tricky part to meditation, the part that takes the investment of time and practice, is letting thoughts go, and staying in the silence in-between. Let the naturally arising thoughts go…and not rush on to the next thought.

All I know is my own experience. Meditation is one of those things where you can read about it until the cows come home, but there is no substitute for just plain DOing it.

Imagine each though being the ring of a bell (the reason for bell and dorje in Tibetan Buddhism??? I would love to know the answer to that if any of you are knowledgeable about Tibetan Buddhist meditation). For me, if each thought was the clang of a cymbal, I would sound like one of those toy wind-up monkeys clanging away most of the time. On a good day, it is more like a wind-up monkey with a bad spring. It clangs away…then I catch myself thinking, and let it go. It might be quiet for just a second before the clanging starts again. And then catch it-stop it as second.  And so the cycle goes. A second is better than nothing, and maybe someday the wind up monkey toy will sit quiet for more than a heartbeat. But even that clanging will fade. Even that clanging can be followed by a moment of meditative silence.

So what does meditation have to do with the blog topic, Tarot? Listening to your intuition is a kind of meditation. The right side of the brain is a quiet temple of meditation compared to the clanging, thinking logic of the left side. The cards are just a tool…a doorway into that quiet place. Some problems need us to stand firmly in the doorway, using both reasoned thought and silent insight. Sometimes we need to step into silence…even for a heartbeat…to see our way forward, to know what to do with the next round of clanging monkey-toy sounds.

Ever play with that trick of eyesight? Close one eye, and hold up a pencil so it lines up with an object in the distance. Then switch eyes and the pencil seems to jump to one side. Things don’t line up the same way.

In astronomy, this is called parallax. In anatomy this phenomenon where the brain combines two slightly different views from two slightly different viewpoint gives us depth perception…it allows us to see distance. Two eyes lets us live in three dimensions. It helps us to not walk into objects and learn our environment the hard way.

A similar idea is true in Tarot and psychic work. Getting a reading isn’t predicting the future…it is getting a second look, a separate viewpoint that lets us see with greater clarity and understanding. It helps us be a bit more perceptive, and not have to do every little thing the hard way.

Two third-eyes are better than one.

Even those of us who do readings will sometimes GET one to improve our understanding, fill in any blind spots.

I like to think of psychics consulting psychics, and doing formal tarot readings for ourselves is a bit like binocular vision…two views that can be fused together into a higher quality, more useful vision. It is a bit like the very large array of radio telescopes made famous in the movie “Contact”…each person, psychic or not, has their own individual “radar”…their intuition. When we communicate with another antenna, it gives a result that is like having a dish as large as the distance between them…put alot together and you have one giant telescope!

If one eye is closed, then depth perception doesn’t work. If one telescope is down, the array doesn’t work as well. We each bring our part to a reading. You bring your insight too. Working together, we double our view. Depending on a psychic, or a reading to “predict” the future, or what will happen is third-eye-blind.

Work together, by combining your knowing and insight with the reading, taking responsibility for your actions and decisions…working with the psychic that way, you can see farther into the cosmos.
